Audinate™ was founded by researchers at Australia's prestigious NICTA (National ICT Australia) research institute, to commercialize pioneering R&D work undertaken over three years within NICTA. Audinate is dedicated to using its unique technology to bring the benefits of IP networking to professional and installed audio and video networks and equipment.
Today most professional live audio setups have wires everywhere, to distribute audio from instruments to amplifiers, mixing desks and speakers. These point-to-point connections are bulky and complicated to set up, prone to noise, inflexible and expensive.
Audinate has developed networked solutions which allow digital audio and video to be transported using standard data networking protocols, such as Ethernet and TCP/IP, but without compromising performance or introducing unacceptable delay.
Applications include professional recording studios, PA and live playback equipment as used in performance venues, installed AV systems for home entertainment equipment, and musical instruments. The technology allows the same network to carry multiple high-quality audio channels with sample.accurate timing, Musical Instrument Data Interface (MIDI), and control data.
The technology facilitates a plug and play approach, allowing new sources to be discovered automatically. No human intervention is needed to configure which socket or patch panel a source is connected to. The use of Audinate™ technology reduces cabling and connector costs and set-up times for audio networks.

The people in the Audinate team have many years of networking experience between them and have been involved with standardization in the IEEE the IETF in the areas including zero configuration networking and quality of Service (QoS).
