House of Worship Audio Boot Camp at Summer NAMM 2019 - Nashville, TN

Jul 18 – Jul 19, 2019

On Thursday, July 18, and Friday, July 19, Audinate, Radial Engineering, Sennheiser and Yamaha will be co-presenting at a free, 2-day event hosted at Summer NAMM entitled, "House of Worship Audio Boot Camp."

Come learn critical skills of professional sound that can be applied to any sound system you encounter.  In the process, you will also learn how to maintain and improve a system over time. At this class, you will be shown key concepts that will enable you to:

  • Set up and maintain a Dante A/V network; pass Dante Level 1-2 Certification
  • Mic up and mix the praise band and pastor - even if your go-to mic isn’t in the kit
  • Plan Wireless Frequencies for Mics and In-Ear systems
  • Understand DIs: both basic models and tone maintaining/enhancing models
  • Control feedback (while getting the volume you need)
  • Set up basic monitor mixes and know how this task differs from front-of-house
  • Create space and balance in any mix; manage the acoustic energy in the room
  • Manage larger mixes with busses, DCAs and understand “double-bussing”
  • Explain the principles between speakers on poles, clusters, and line arrays
  • Effectively use PAs that are biamped or run with a “sub auxiliary”
  • Distribute audio to lobbies, overflow rooms and the online stream
  • Design simple sound solutions for other meeting spaces

This session is suitable for users of all levels, from the volunteer to a tech director.  Attendees should come with an understanding of the elements of a sound system, how to connect them and the basic signal flow.

Topics will always begin with a brief review of textbook fundamentals to make sure they are understood, then spend the bulk of the time on the practical skills and artistic perspective of sound.  Many subjects will include a demonstration, so the challenges and solutions are seen and heard for better understanding/appreciation. A separate “sandbox” system will be available to the side for you to try your hand at some of these applications, as well.

In addition, we will offer perspective and tricks to interacting with talent.  Sound engineers have to work with performers as a team. Getting their cooperation and confidence will totally change the performance for the better.

Sessions are taught by leaders with decades of experience in the industry, offering experience both in the field and as an instructor.

You can talk to people from other churches about what you do or what you saw at the event - it’s all about sharpening those skills we talked about.
