Course descriptions
Dante Introduction/Bootcamp – Get Savvy in Minutes! (75 minutes)
June 3: 9:00am- 10:15am
Dante is the de-facto standard solution for AVoIP (Audio-Video-over-IP networks) in the professional space. Instead of connecting multi-core cables of analog, AES3 links or even MADI, Dante uses the flexibility of an Ethernet network to digitally link devices. This allows you to route devices anywhere on the network with one click – no more moving cables and chasing links through patch bays.
This session offers a hands-on experience, with small groups of users sharing systems at tables. Attendees should bring their laptop so they can control the system, and possibly feed music to it. For those who have never worked with AVoIP before, this “push-start” is just the ticket to gain a practical understand of how the system works. That brings the skill and confidence to work on an existing Dante system or to create your own.
This class is also helpful for those who have not had personal experience with Dante but would like to continue on to the Dante Certification program.
An Introduction/Demonstration of Dante AV Video (60 minutes)
June 3: 11:00am – 12:00pm
Attendees with audio or video backgrounds will each get something different from this course. Those with audio backgrounds will learn fundamentals of video transmission, from basic synchronization to video compression. Video professionals will gain a better understanding of the Dante solution, and how that can benefit in designing and deploying video systems.
There will be demonstrations of how Dante AV produces broadcast quality, visually lossless images across a variety of signal types with exceptionally low latency. Demonstrations will be shown with many types of image sources, demonstrating tight synchronization and visual clarity on common 1Gbps networks.
Dante Certification Training at NAMM
The Dante Certification Training at NAMM focuses on the same content Audinate’s on-demand learning at https://audinate.com/certify. The live and on-demand classes complement each other, and we know many students enjoy taking the class in both forms.
Live classes offer an opportunity to ask questions of the instructors and see some real Dante equipment in action. However, as these steps can eat up some time, the live class may streamline or skip some chapters that are more straight-forward. These will be listed for attendees. For the best personal education and best scores on the Dante Certification tests, it is recommended that students also watch the on-demand classes.
The Dante Certification tests are taken online. Time is not allotted in the class to do this - attendees can take the tests at home. However, at NAMM, we have also allocated time between classes so students would have sufficient time to take the test and still have a moderate break. Attendees can use the public Wi-Fi to log in and take the tests. Instructors will be available to keep the room open and answer any questions before or after the test.
Dante Certification Level 1, Second Edition (Abridged)
June 3: 1:30-3:30pm
Dante Certification Level 1 (2nd Edition) focuses on the skills to design, set up and operate a Dante audio/video system on a single network switch. This class will establish fundamental skills in audio, video and networking, and offer an introduction to the main tools used in a Dante network. Demonstrations offer attendees a practical feel for Dante's breadth, reach and simplicity.
The 2nd Edition class is significantly enhanced from the original Dante Certification. This class adds significant educational content on video, making sense of Dante devices with multiple network ports on them, as well as deeper tours of Dante Controller’s screens.
Dante Certification Level 2, Second Edition (Abridged)
June 4: 9:00am-12:00pm
Pre-requisite – Dante Certification Level 1, Second Edition
Dante Certification Level 2 (2nd Edition) builds the necessary skillset to confidently design, set up, operate and troubleshoot Dante systems that span multiple network switches. A combination of live and pre-recorded demonstrations (due to required scale or elapsed time) will bring these features to life.
This 2nd Edition class is significantly enhanced from the original Dante Certification. It builds a much stronger understanding of networking, traffic management and troubleshooting. This greatly helps technicians manage systems at this level, and it prepares them well for Level 3.
Dante Certification Level 3, Second Edition (Abridged)
June 4: 1:30pm-4:00pm
Pre-requisite – Dante Certification Level 2, Second Edition
Dante Certification Level 3 (2nd Edition) tackles the fundamentals of Layer 3 enterprise networks and operating on converged networks. Dante Domain Manager™ is a key piece of this puzzle - this class explains the role Dante Domain Manager plays, how it enables more network capability and offers a view of the server itself.
This 2nd Edition of Level 3 is significantly different than the original version. Since the original Level 3 class was developed before Dante Domain Manager was available, it only taught the challenges of a Layer 3 network. This new version brings the challenges to life in a more relatable way. And because the class now demonstrates Dante Domain Manager, attendees walk away with a clearer understanding of how to solve these issues.
Time in the class is also spent on individual IP sockets that create the Dante solution. Thus, students walk away with a better understanding of troubleshooting and can better interface with IT – especially when networks might start with restrictive security policies.
